Fujitsu never fails when it comes to mobile phone concepts. Every year they tease me with amazing ideas and quite often they're working models. Such is the case at this year's CEATEC in Japan. Fujitsu showed off a pebble shaped phone made of glass with a blob of black liquid inside - only that liquid morphs into anything you need a.k.a. a screen, interface, even a fierce game of mercury. Okay I made that last part up but still - PROOF OF CONCEPT Y'ALL!

I want this phone like yesterday. Hit the jump for more pics.
polaris_g001.jpgRobots and mobile phones are huge in Japan so it was only a matter of time for the two to come together thanks to KDDI AU. The concept Polaris is a Sony Rolly-like robot with a mobile phone dock. It's supposed to act as a life recorder keeping track of everything you do, then giving you recommendations.

tiltshiftgenerator_01.jpgOriginally created as an Adobe AIR application, Tiltshift Generator has made its way to the iPhone and if the absolute massive Flickr group is any indication, I'm not the only one hooked.

Tiltshift is an effect where color saturation and focal blurs are used to fake a miniature model. Not all photos work but that's the fun in the challenge

Only $0.99 and the app is beautifully designed too.

windowphone_02.jpg How brilliant is this phone?!? Okay, brilliantly genius or brilliantly impossible - that's for you to decide but designer Seunghan Song does a good job at wetting my desire. Ewww. It's true. I digress.

The phone is a simple clear glass (plastic?) pane, fully touchscreen of course, but instead of some boring weather widget, the entire screen is imbued with current weather conditions that dynamically influence how you interact with it. For example. If it's frosty cold outside, you can draw on the screen as if you're drawing on a cold window pane. Certain controls can only be activated by blowing your breath on it to build up enough fog to bring up the interface. More pics after the jump.

Palm Pre Official Video Tour from Gizmodo on Vimeo.

How many times do I need to say "DO WANT" to express my lust over the just announced Palm Pre smartphone. Everybody knows the company was pretty much sitting just about 6 feet under with Blackberries and iPhone shoveling in the gravel but I dare I say, this is an iPhone killa! For real y'all, I'm writing Palm's press agent right now to get a review unit for Yanko Design.

Nokia Bigconcept

Mobile phones are getting so thin, they're almost ignoring every rule of handheld ergonomics. Designer Heikki Juvonen decided to backtrack and redesign a futuristic mobile complete with all modern accoutrements but with realistic ergonomics in mind. The end result is a phone he believes is perfectly balanced in the hand placing the heavy components towards the bottom. The unique profile shape also helps it sit better in the hand providing multiple surface areas to grip.

Kddiply

Making sure to flex its concepting muscles, KDDI au just announced their PLY mobile phone concept inspired by sandwiched plywood. Each section is tabbed to core functions like a dialpad, keyboard, gamepad, touchscreen, pico project, and printer! Will it ever see the light of day? Hard to say. Miniaturizing some of those proposed functions seems beyond what science and technology can achieve now but never underestimate the Japanese.
