Garrett Neff and His Belt
It's really not fair when you look this good being normal. Model Garrett Neff is so fucking hot, it's almost a mirage. I don't even see anything behind him, save for a woman who looks like a really chic Mrs. Doubtfire. Oh and lookie, the BELT. Com'on he's just teasing me!
Garrett, you know I love you right?

Undercover S/S 2010

I am loving Jun Takahashi's second menswear collection. Undercover is a perfect mix of futurism, sportswear, and unattached historic influences. I love the mix of wools, knits, and techno fabrics. I want a pair of those metallic leggings in every color. The more traditional pieces like a man's blazer borderline sharp Calvin Klein-like tailoring with the relaxed comforts found in Bottega Veneta jackets.

Burberry Prorsum S/S 2010

Color me shocked when most of the colors from Burberry were dark, and for the Spring/Summer show no less! The focus seems to be on outerwear with techno fabrics and finishes. There's a slight homage to Helmut Lang with all the strap work - but in a less severe fashion - certainly more wearable for mainstream men. I particularly like the washed out pastel colors.

Trussardi S/S 2010

I'm not feeling the tailored bohemian looks from most of the collection. Standouts for me were the Native American inspired garbs. The embellishments look almost like armor or plating softening the feminine textures and colors.

Moonspoon Saloon F/W 2009

I'm loving the Copenhagen based label Moonspoon Saloon. The ongoing collab between costume designer Sara Sachs, painter Tal R, and photographer Noam Griegst is meant to be temporary. They'll completely shut down operations once they sell 99 styles.
I love how there isn't really any cultural or period reference. The silhouette isn't outrageous but the exaggerated proportions and texture/color combinations make it out of this world.

Hu

Loving the latest Issey Miyake timepiece collab, this time with ID extraordinaire Ross Lovegrove. It slightly resembles what some of the early FOSSIL watches but done in a way only Issey Miyake could execute. Available September '09.

So Popular Fall/Winter '09
I'm loving the clean unfettered lines from So Popular. It reminds me of Calvin Klein minus all the techno fabrications. There's a bit of military in some of the cuts but nothing blatant. I love the super refined detailing on the jackets. Definitely going to pick up a few items unless the designers would be so kind as to send me some. :) Hint hint!

Madonna Does Costume Gala

All the "controversy" around what Madonna wore to this year's Met Costume Gala is ridiculous. First of all, it's a COSTUME GALA ergo, where something you wouldn't normally and that she did. Sometimes clothes are meant to be fun. Some people have the balls to wear something outrageous, some don't. It's the ones who do that make the world go round so get that stick out of your ass, and take it in stride. You don't have to wear it, so why do you care if someone else does?

A True Beauty
No one can touch the fabulousness that is Andre Leon Talley, NO ONE. His red carpet frock at the Met Costume Gala probably sent paparazzi into shock. To rock an Adidas inspired graduation gown with little miss pilgrim shoes requires balls too big to measure with any proper scale. Speaking of which, check out the scale of that necklace. I swear I've seen that same exact one at Claires except it was about 10x smaller and designed as an anklet. Andre, I am not worthy.

Hot Footballer Lives in Bikkemberg Store
Andrea Vasa, a defender for Milan's local football club Brera, is currently living in the new Dirk Bikkembergs boutique in Milan in an attempt to fully immerse customers in a star athlete's luxury lifestyle.
Selected by Dirk Bikkembergs himself, Andrea now lives in the flagship store under the eyes of the store's clients. Among the shelves and clothes hangers exposing the items that are for sale, Andrea's personal clothes can be found, as well as the pictures and books he chose to take with him to his new home.Andrea lives in the apartment at Via Manzoni 47 in total freedom. He can invite family and friends and can count on a housekeeper, who will tidy up his living quarters at set times or upon demand. His role is to be admired alongside the sunglasses, shirts, jackets and football boots. Visitors can come and have a look at his wardrobe. Before going out, Andrea will take a shower in a relax room papered with pages from Gazzetta dello Sport, compose his outfit for the following occasion, preen himself in one of the silver trophies, step into his Porsche and drive it out through a massive window that doubles as a garage door.

Nom De Guerre F/W '09

I hate the boots but I'm loving the cloth cut and fit. All the pants from the denim to dress are true classic fit. Slim at the waist without being tight and high in the crotch. It makes your leg look longer and leaner without having to wear those nut huggers all the hipsters are flaunting.

Don't Cry Baby Girl

The fashion press was up in arms earlier this week when model August Tomasuite walked down the runway with tears streaming down her face during the Jil Sander show. Was it part of the presentation? Was it her shoes? Was it some underlying emotional problem reflective of the industry as a whole? It didn't help that Jil Sander's publicist Pierre Rougier refused to even acknowledge her tears even after rewatching the video. Conspiracy?

The model speaks out herself claiming it wasn't her shoes or emotional distress. It was just the intense lights and flashes from hungry photographers. Yea, I halfway believe it but then again, I've never been the "deer in headlights" so who knows how my eyes would react. It goes without saying, her emotional display has landed her a spot in the public and press. Models are usually stone cold so to see someone so sweet and innocent looking in tears reconnects her humanity with us common folk. I'm sure we'll be seeing more of Auguste soon.

Bernhard Willhelm Special Shoe

Just ordered mine. You gonna get yours? I adore Bernhard Willhelm and tho some will find his designs a little too esoteric, this shoe is a perfect blend of concept vs. wearability. I chose the lighter beige/red colorway. I got too many dark shoes.
This shoe has a suede upper with constrasting leather panels on the placket. There is also leather reinforcement at the ankle. A gladiator style lattice on the tongue forms the high-top, wrapping around the front of the leg and fastening with velcro at the ankle. The sole is gum rubber. £215.00!

My Top 15 "Man Bags"

A reader emailed me about finding a man bag that can accompany him on everyday errands. In the interest of preserving his masculinity and yours, from this point on the word "man bag" will be in quotations.
The demarcation between a woman's bag and a "man bag" is a fine line so if you're not yet ready to cross it, here are my two rules for safely navigating that tricky route. All "man bags" should have shoulder straps and optionally thick, wide, and/or rounded hand straps. If it has those two things, everything else on it is just commentary and you can choose what you like, from stitching, hardware, to materials.
If you're ready to ditch that plain jane boring messenger bag I know many of you are holding on to, take a gander at my top 15 "man bags." They're all a little more fashion forward and can wear easily from work to everyday life.

Diesel BROMO $684.00
Love the perforated leather, the soft briefcase like appearance and it comes with feet detailing so you can set it down.

D&G Nylon & Leather Messenger Bag $435.00
The silhouette is simple but the distressed and washed leather, ash black color, and multiple hidden pockets for all your gadgets make it a real "man bag."

Hudson Leather Bag $264.16
Clean, simple, modern. Hudson leather is soooo soft. This is one of those bags that look good flat or fully stuffed.

Hosachi Style Bag $70.00
This bag is a STEAL. The leather is top notch synthetic. The whole look and feel is biker meets bomber jacket. It even has straps to convert into a backpack.

MATTBLACK $68.00
It's really a tote but designed to collapse the upper half into a messenger. I love the tight woven look mixed with leather and a bit of metal.

CARGA 02 $245.00
I own several bags from CARGA and I love them all. Everything is handmade. The rivets are pressed using old school industrial machines and the wool felt is luxuriously soft yet strong. It's minimal and industrial at the same time.

Y-3 Mobility Messenger $320.00
I own several Y-3 bags, the collaboration between Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas. I'm never disappointed with the quality. If you want a bag that has storage up the ying-yang, this bag is for you.

Samsonite Black Label Waifer Tote $143.00
I'm always impressed by Samsonite's Black Label. They pump out some seriously good looking bags. The name is already synonymous with quality but the Waifer collection pumps up the luxury. This might be a future purchase.

Blackbird Bobby Work Bag $228.00
It looks like leather but it's actually heavy cotton. I love the simplicity and detailing. It's good enough for the gym and sexy enough keep up appearances when I'm out.

Blackbird Chausser $705.00
If you want something a little more traditional without sacrificing style, you can't go wrong with this bag. There's an antique finish and I love the pocket to tuck in any excess shoulder strap.

Surface 2 Air Classic Bag $375.00
Love love LOVE this bag. Love the grey leather, the gun metal snaps, the tartan check lining and yes it comes with a shoulder strap. Big enough for travel, laptop, DS, iPhone, extra socks.

Surface 2 Air Small Weekender $375.00
It's similar to the classic bag but more fashion forward. The irregularly grained Borrego leather direct from Italy looks like a whole village worked 60 hours to beat it into submission so its ridiculously soft and DAMN does it smell good!

Fox Messenger Bag $330.00
Another felt entry in the list but this is more utilitarian with pockets galore. I love the clean minimalism and that cute logo branded in with a hot iron really takes the cake. It even comes with a sleeve big enough for a 15" laptop.

Hard Graft 2UNFOLD $450.00
This is DEFINITELY my next purchase. This bag is handmade in Italy with the supplest leather, hand tanned, hand finished, in eco-friendly vegetable dyes. The craftsmanship is AMAZING but that's only the beginning. This bag transforms into 7 other kinds... a briefcase, safecase, rucksack, courier, backpack, clutch, shoulder bag and depending on how you configure it - can fit laptops from 13-17". That's a whole lotta bang for your buck.

Diesel 2 Tone Leather Bag $310.00
You can never go wrong with Diesel bags. They're all great quality, and come with a lot of varied style even a conservative man could pull off. I love this particular one because of how worn in it looks. It's the perfect combo between 2 colors of leather, suede, and nylon.

Robert Geller Wins CFDA Menswear Award

YAY! Congrats to Robert Geller for winning this year's CFDA Best New Menswear Designer award. The $50,000 cash prize will go a long way in further establishing the label. This year's prize also includes a mini-collection to be designed for Levi's. I'm definitely going to cop that.
Robert Geller who once worked with the now defunct Cloak label is a design force in his own right. The aesthetics are totally different but the tailoring and craftsmanship are still all there.
Definitely one of my favorite new designers tho he doesn't seem that new to me. He's been hitting the pavement hard these past few years. Hard work pays off and his tale inspires me to work harder.
Competition was stiff too. Check out my previous post about the other nominees. I predicted Robert Geller!

Canuck Fashion
I have this love/hate relationship with this NYC based (by way of Canada) menswear line called Burkman Brothers, by none other than 2 brothers. They've been making rounds in all the big men's circulations so I wanted to dive in and check out what the hub-bub was about.
Their aesthetic is a blend of the iconic great north American outdoorsmen who went to college and picked up a few preppy habits. In other words, it's Abercrombie, LL Bean, J. Crew, and a little bit of the Gap. The clothes are extremely wearable and comfy so if your taste falls somewhere in the world of cotton, knits, plaids, and shirtings - you might like Burkman Brothers.

Rubik 360 More Maddening Than Original
The Rubik’s 360 is set to repeat the success of the maddening Cube, which became an overnight sensation almost three decades ago and remains the world’s fastest-selling toy. Now the reclusive Hungarian inventor hopes to recreate the buzz of Rubik’s Cube with his new game, featuring six balls trapped within three transparent plastic spheres.
The puzzle show here ahead of its unveiling at a toy industry fair in Germany on February 5, confronts users with the same frustrating challenge – a task that is simple to understand, with only one possible solution, yet extremely difficult to execute. Players must get the colored balls from an inner sphere into matching slots on the outer sphere by shaking them through a middle sphere that has only two holes.

GQ Names Top American Menswear Designers
For the most part I agree, with a few exceptions. I won't name names because everyone should make their own judgements. I will only judge you if you're a man, don't live in a blistering cold environment but wear Uggs year-round. I digress, here are GQ's 6 finalists for the annual Best New American Menswear Designer. - Alex Carleton for Rogues Gallery
- Robert Geller for Robert Geller
- David Mullen for Save Khaki
- Sam Shipley and Jeff Halmos for Shipley & Halmos
- Yigal Azrouel for Yigal Azrouel

Shark Egg Capsules
If you have a Speedo store in your city, visit it and find the Fast Skin display. The wetsuit is inspired by slippery shark skin but it's the packaging I'm more interested in. Each wetsuit is packaged inside a translucent capsule, very similar to what baby sharks emerge from. I just wanted to buy 4 and hang them along my dining room wall complete with ground effects lighting. It's like a fashion art piece.

Diesel's Foot Fetish
I'm not sure what to make of Diesel's latest footwear ad. I myself don't have a foot fetish and using a hot male model with hot legs certainly helps with marketing but I guess there was no room for fantasy because the fetishsseur is some old folgie. Ain't that the truth tho? It's always some old pervy man. I know I know I'm stereotyping but I just had to get that off my chest. Tired of being politically correct.
I digress. The ad is well art directed too. Check out the bowling trophies in the background. This image is actually the cropped version. There's more than meets the eye if you check out the full version.

Designers Say The Darndest Things

"There's one indulgence every man should try in his lifetime: If you're straight, sleep with a man at least once, and if you're gay, don't go through life without sleeping with a woman. Either way, you might be surprised at how natural it will feel if you can get past the mind-fuck stereotypes. In the end, it's just another person that you are relating to in a physical way."

Engineered Garments F/W 2008
A Japanese take of Americana. Daiki Suzuki is a man enamored with American workwear. Not the stuff we wear today, but a time when clothes were woolen and dated, meant to look tattered. If a button fell off you replaced it. You may have not been able to sew and the button may have not even matched but that's the charm.
The Fall/Winter 2008 Engineered Garments collection is inspired by American steel and railroad workers mixed with a bit of good ole' logging and coal mining from the 20's and 30's. Everything, even the pants, are tailored woolens. I love how it's a Japanese take on what I would normally call blue collar wear. Daiki may not know it but the clothes feel distinctively Japanese. The proportions, cut, and subtle deconstructivist detailing are straight up Nihon.

My friends and I always rag on this woman and her "Quaker" line of fashionably knitted sweaters on QVC. We're talking full on cable stitches adorned with ducks, pine trees, squirrels, snow, etc.. you name it. But knitwear doesn't have to be so "meh" as proven by SIBLING Knitwear company. Joe Bates, Sid Bryan, and Cozette McCreery all came from top fashion houses like Alexander McQueen and Lanvin. My Fall/Winter Wardrobe
Fall and winter are my favorite seasons mainly because in Los Angeles, it's mild in the day and only a little chilly at night. I basically pull out money I horde during the summer (because I hardly ever shop then) and go nuts in the stores. I've also noticed like most men I try to purchase everything at once. It's much less hassle because if I ever do return to the stores, it's to buy basics like undies and socks. I don't want to have to think about anything else - just in and out of the stores.
Oddly I define my seasonal wardrobe by what footwear I buy first. They set the stage and everything else becomes secondary or decorative. I try not to prescribe to any "fashion rules." I wear what I want regardless of whether it makes me look short, fat, stubby, or weird. Somewhere along the way somebody got way too serious and decided fashion - which is supposed to be trendsetting - needed to follow conformist rules. BLAH to that.

Killing Old People Made Fashionable
There's an interesting old Serbian custom where the elderly are ritualistically killed once they become a burden on their families. It's not considered murder but an honorary right - to sacrifice one's self for the family. This ritual is called "lapot" which is also the name of Sadak's Fall/Winter 2008/2009 collection.
The whole concept is based on tradition, ethnography, anthropology, history, and clothing. Sadak incorporated a variety of ideational elements from proceeding periods, together with the clothing features of the period when they were made and worn, often using the mystical and poetic stories.

High-heel Galoshes
A company called SWIMS just launched a new product in their uber stylish galoshe line-up but this one is a high-heel. Like the other SWIMS products, the design of the City Slipper is simple and beautiful and in line with company's Scandanavian heritage. In addition, the design incorporates lots of great details both for practical and aesthetic reasons.
- Extra traction for slippery surfaces
- The sole of each CitySlipper has the map of either New York, Paris or Tokyo (see image)
- Pull on/off grip and the soft siliconpad on the sides makes it very convenient.
- Flexible design to fit almost any heel height and thickness due to flexible material and construction
- Protection for the delicate leather/suede sole of your shoe and the tip of the shoe against the elements.
- Low-Cut style is for shoes with bows and buckles

My Latest Sweater

As winter approaches I need to start thinking about warm clothes and nothing warms better than a wool sweater. Unfortunately cashmere ain't cheap but lucky for me I have a dog that sheds enough to clothe a small village.
And I'm not the only one with that idea. The people at Pet Yarn Chic will take your dog's hair and spin it into yarn. They'll even knit something for you. Before you gag (or maybe you've been gagging since the first paragraph), here me out. Dog hair is super soft and gets softer the more you wash it. Unlike cashmere, you can throw it in the washer because of its durability.

Butt Ass Naked in a Laundry Mat Thanks to Kris Van Assche
Designer Kris Van Assche and photographer Jeff Burton collaborated on a series of 12 layouts which will run in 12 select, international magazines as a unique advertising campaign for Van Assche’s FW 08.09 men’s collection.
Photographed in Los Angeles in March 2008 in a Laundromat, the series started as an artistic collaboration for A Magazine.
A Magazine is a bi-annual Antwerp-based magazine. Each issue is edited by a guest curator who freely develops the content of the issue. Van Assche is the curator of issue No 7 (on newsstands in May 08). Previous curators include Yohji Yamamoto, Martin Margiela, Martine Sitbon, Haider Ackermann.
The location for the shoot, a Laundromat, was chosen based on the set design of Van Assche’s FW 08.09 runway show, for which vintage washing machines were placed alongside the catwalk.
Typical for Burton’s work, the casting consists of real people and porn actors. His photographs capture the idea of seduction and sensuality, without any crudeness. Kris Van Assche, a longtime admirer of Burton, especially appreciates the poetry Jeff Burton pulls from the world of pornography : a place where it is hard to find.
Beginning with September issues, 12 layouts will run in 12 select international magazines. Each layout will thus be exclusive to the magazine. The full series can be seen on Kris Van Assche's site.

Luxury Contact Lenses
It's a little excessive to have a strand of Swarovski crystals hanging from your eyeball. Yeah I said EYEBALL. These specially designed contact lenses were made by artist Eric Klareneek so don't go asking for them at your next optometrist appointment.
Who am I kidding? I would totally buy into this. Some kabuki makeup and these lenses would make a killer look.

Fashion Jock Sean Avery
I've been stalking following New York Rangers Sean Avery ever since his Vogue internship announcement. Already the man dispels many stereotypes about athletes; being a self admitted fashionista, there's no denying this could be the best thing that's ever happened to American hockey. On top of that, the man writes and writes well. He's guest editor for men's Vogue this month. Read on as he brings insight into the world of hockey, fashion, and journals his first few weeks working there. The man makes millions, yet he's accepted a minimum wage job just to do what he loves second best; fashion. You go boy!. Call me.

Dior's Black Diamonds
When it comes to mobile phones there are 3 classes. You have your mass market which is the largest segment. It's what most people have. Then you have your tech market with devices like the HTC Diamond and iPhone. This class tends to innovate and push technology forward. Finally you have your luxe class, such as the case with the new Dior Black Diamond phone. It's no longer about market segment, it's no longer about tech. It's all about the cache that comes with a $5,000 phone.
Money man, so much money.

No No No No Not Nau!
Today is a really sad day for me. One of my favorite clothing lines Nau is going out of business. This comes as a shock to me as I read the very personal letter posted on their website. Despite being a business built on ecological and sustainable ideals - the downward spiral of America's economy has basically forced the company to close its doors.
For me this is only discouragement since I have based much of my research into launching my own line thru studying Nau's business model. The company doesn't just preach using organic and sustainable materials. They advocate a total paradigm shift in the entire life cycle of clothing, creating a closed loop system by where resources are extracted responsibly and at the end of its life - goes back to feed the system instead of rotting away in landfills. Unfortunately the hardships of challenging a very deeply entrenched system has left the company too battle scarred to continue on.
In the meantime we can enjoy major sales as the company clears out its stock. Their clothes are minimal but exquisitely designed and constructed - the type of quality consumers don't normally associate with organic products. Don't be fooled. These clothes are more high-end than labels trotting out of New York and Europe.
Thank you Nau for being so bold, daring, and inspirational.

'08 S/S - Walter Van Beirendonck
I've been following Walter's work for some time now and he never ceases to make me smile. His spring/summer collection entitled Sexclown draws inspiration from the digital world, namely avatars like those found in Second Life. He feels this digital versioning is the next step in the evolution of body manipulation - leaving the physical body to live as a pure digital form.
Sexclown also sees Walter returning to his usual theme of fetishism. The collection has a wonderful silhouette out of pure fantasy with the strongly articulate shoulders, hips and waistline - characteristics you'd be use to from the low polygon avatars in Second Life. To take the collection and its inspiration full circle, Second Life users can also download each one of the 16 models.

There are few people in my field I'm jealous of but Henrik Vibskov is definitely one of them. This man does it all, from composing music, making award winning films, art collaborations with designers and artists around the world, and to top it all off - a wacky but successful clothing line.
I'm hardly qualified in any of those areas except fashion so lets talk about that. He graduated from the prestigious Central St. Martins School of Art and Design in London, then suddenly found himself catapulted to the likes of Dazed and Confused magainze, I-D, Wallpaper, and Vogue just to name a few. The Queen Lands In Los Angeles
I meant Alexander McQueen, fashion designer God to many celebs, fashionistas, and aspiring designers. His North American flagship store just opened in Los Angeles on the corner of Melrose and Orlando. Though the facade isn't anything ground breaking, you might notice what looks to be a silver head peeking out from the roof. That's because a full size anatomically correct metal sculpture by Robert Bryce Muir triumphantly straddles a sky light with his arms right above the entry way.
McQueen wants the store to pull double duties as both retail and gallery space. Tall order but if anyone can do it, the Queen can.

Reebok Emoretion By John Maeda
Reebok and world-renowned graphic designer John Maeda have collaborated once again and this time are pleased to present the Reebok x Maeda Emoretion.
In their first collaboration, Maeda designed the Timetanium which was inspired by Time. For his latest design, Maeda drew from the 7th Law- emotion- from his book, The Laws of Simplicity. In it, he urges us to embrace our natural desire for personal meaning in everything we do.
Using Reebok’s iconic Freestyle as his canvas, Professor Maeda’s handwritten code decorates the shoe’s lining and creates the digital paisley print, representing a burst of pure energy and emotion. Holographic straps bring this design to life with every move, while the velvet-wrapped mid-sole and tongue-liner give a little elegance to the shoe.
Only 100 pairs will be sold. The Timetaniums sold out in the first 14 hours so these will probably go just as fast. March 31st is the day people. Mark those calendars. Hit the jump to hear John Maeda break it down.

Your Jeans, My Jeans
Not sure if my newer readers know but I have a fashion design background that's been sitting on the back burner for far too long. Mainly because my fascination with construction, art, and design doesn't mesh well with the economics of the fashion industry.
But I'm finally working on my very own menswear collection with the help and guidance of some very good people in my life. It's totally focused on sustainability from the cradle point all the way down to business. In my research I've learned the many gritty details often glazed over. PUMA Buys Hussein Chalayan
May not be really big news unless you're into fashion or love Puma. Okay in hindsight that's like everybody so guess what? Puma bought a huge stake in Hussein Chalayan's business and taking on the designer as Puma's first ever Creative Director.
I'm excited Chalayan's ideas will finally have the financial backing of a company rich enough to let him do what he wants. I can only imagine what he'll create for Puma. The flip side is the death of another independent fashion house. Chalayan is one of the very few "cerebral" fashion designers out there. He marches to his own beat and many of my fashion peers feel the industry is now a big conglomerate.
In any case, my congratulations to Hussein Chalayan. See my favorite Chalayan pieces after the jump.

A Chino I'd Wear
I despise Chinos. Yes I know they are the American staple but their blandness makes me feel bored and clothes shouldn't do that. But the 2-tacs chino by B Yoshida is totally up my alley.
Nothing riveting here except for that big pouch. The easiest way to make me like something I traditionally hated is "make it functional." My only issue is the sizing; small and medium only. Damn the Japanese for their svelte frames and damn me for my meaty American bred body.

Celebs Diluting Fashion Design
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana are tired of the number of fashion shows each season and that number is increasing. When asked by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera about the situation, they had this to say;
"A senseless circus. There should be fewer events of higher quality."
I have to agree with them. This season in Milan, the number of shows has exploded to 103. It seems fashion is under attack by celebrities who think they can design. Excuse me but fashion design is a skill, one whose technical executions are only as good as its creative origins. All the money in the world will only make your line hot for the moment, but to have some relevance in history? Don't get your hopes up. Leave the big fashion shows to the real designers and stick to trade shows instead.

Smarter Clothing Labels

RFID is the name of the game and pretty soon we'll see it reach mainstream in some very unexpected applications. One in particular is the ClothTAG. Meant to replace current garment care labels, the ClothTAG uses RFID technology to tell your washer and dryer what settings to use. Of course, that requires you to have RFID enabled appliances. If you don't, no worries. The RFID circuitry cleverly mimics icons found in current garment care labels so you'll still know how best to wash your undies the old fashioned way.

For the dog that has everything, why not some ruff diamonds? Vivienne Westwood is teaming up with jewelry designers to create a line of jewel encrusted collars to present at the upcoming Pet a Porter show. I'm not kidding.
The collar/jacket combo above is covered in diamonds and sapphires. If you want one, it'll cost you a small fortune which is precisely why all 35 tickets to the show are going to celebs who have cash to burn.

Human After All
I love these new Diesel ads.The concept seems to be set in a Star Wars-like period on Earth. It's sobering to know that even then we will still have genius and brilliance, trials and tribulations because we are human after all. The Ikea shot is great. Damn tables are deceptively complex.

Samsonite Sneaker

Samsonite is synonymous with luggage but they also have a fashion line called Samsonite Black Label where the worlds of technology and design meet. One particular item of interest is the Strap Sneaker. Samsonite calls it the perfect travel shoe and for good reason. Made from leather and exquisite breathable fabric, the shoe conforms to your foot by stretching and contracting. The shock absorpbtion system is located inside the sole instead of the bottom of the sneaker cushioning what needs it the most, your foot.
Want it? Gotta find a Samsonite retail store near you.

Some Handy Baggage

The Rotoflexion Backpack - from the article,
"It's hand baggage but not as we know it. Give the day's tensions a cold shoulder with a stress-busting massage. Instead of shoulder straps, the Rotoflexion Backpack has strong mechanical hands that grip and manipulate those knotted trapezius muscles. Powered by a rechargeable lithium ion battery, there's still room for a laptop and a Lion bar."
I want one of these NOW. Thanks Bookofjoe.

Keep Them Feet Cozy

I confess, I own a pair of UGGS and I live in L.A. too! Seriously it does get cold here once in awhile and that's when I break the UGGS out. Only thing is I hate the design. I want something with a bit more style and flair. That's why I like the El Roo's from Puma. It's all corduroy and shearling to keep your dogs warm while integrating that big rubber band strap found on their slip-on. It's only $85 and you can get a low-top version for $75.

Flyer Hooks So Flighty

I've been mulling with the idea of redoing my closet simply because it's the most ignored space in my home. The past couple weekends have been filled with trips to stores for ideas but those super compartmentalized closet organizers just aren't me. I want something cleaner, simple - just some hangers and racks with lighting. I want something a little whimsical but still speaks to my tech/designer sensibilities.
I'm thinking about these Flying Hooks by Bos & Couvee. The hanger is suspended from a cable and looks like a cutesy stealth bomber. I can imagine a row on them but it'll be costly. A 4-pack is $100. Oh well, it's just money right? If I don't spend it here, I'll probably buy another video game or shoes, both of which need to stop.

In the last month I've received 117 emails about this ad for D&G Time watches. All sorts of questions filled my inbox most of which I can't answer like, "who are those hot male models?" But I can answer one question and that's the music. The artist is called Stylophonic and the track, 'R U Experienced'.

Winter Frocks

It's finally getting cold here in Los Angeles so it's time to break out the winter clothes. Sure our winter only lasts a month but it can be a well dressed month. I'm particularly keen on two pieces from Yoko Devereaux. The double breasted cardigan and double breasted military coat.
I love the low dip in the cardigan so you can really show off that shirt, tie, or scarf. Layer people layer! The silhouette also hides tummies should holiday eatin' get to you. It's fleece, it's soft, comfy, and machine washable.
The coat is a great way to add a bit of structure without looking too formal. There's a waisted belt line to visually slim you with matching cuffs and the relaxed details keep it casual.
The cardigan is $125 and the coat is $338.

Change Clothes Without Changing
This is one of the more AMAZING textile tech demos I've seen. The actual dress print is a series of colored circles a computer uses to calculate every single coordinate, movement, and shadow. Using that information new textures can be applied in mere seconds that look just as natural and real. This texture map technology is very similar to what they do in 3D cgi and the developers hope it'll take off in Hollywood.
And you guys thought rip-stop nylon was awesome. Pfft!

Isn't it amazing? And so dang simple too. What a great way to keep warm and add a bit of whimsical sense of humor. The bearded cap was made by Vik Prjonsdottir in Iceland. She seems to make all kinds of odd but necessary things like blankets shaped like seal pelts.

October But It's Not Even Cold

Like WTF right? Chalk it up to global warming or just the weird warm winds blowing in from the north but it's damn near the end of October and temperatures barely dip below 60º here in Los Angeles. Two years ago, I was freezing my fanny off (laugh British people, LAUGH) walking the dog. So what to wear in this kind of weather? I think the light hoodie by B-Son is perfect. I love me some McQueen, truly a brilliant man, a standout in the fashion world. I've often imagined what his take on a sneaker would look like and now I don't have to wonder anymore. He and Puma have teamed up for a collection of shoes inspired by, wait for it . . . the foot. When Dyson And Issey Miyake Get Together
The Wind is created. Probably one of the most unexpected collaborations to form but definitely one of the most interesting - a clothing collection? We know Dyson as those cool $500+ vacuums that cleans like no nobody's business and Miyake to be Japan's most avant garde fashion designer. The end result is a collection called The Wind. Fashion inspired by every part of a Dyson vac, but built using Miyake's patented textile manufacturing processes and design chops. The year long exploration culminated in a theatrical fashion show with moving air tubs and fans blowing. Look at it not just as clothes, but as an art project that explores the possibilities of performance fabrics able to withstand the harshest elements on Earth.

Sweats Don't Have To Be Boring
A really good designer knows how to blend the creature comforts we like with high style and design. That's the hallmark of a design group called Artsym out of Paris. Every collection features unique harlequin-like weaving, full gussets, ample easing, and the occasional commentary on fashion's elitist attitude. However what they're know for is the use of cotton - specifically combed stretch cotton, a.k.a sweats.
I find it inspiring to see such creative forms and shapes out of a "worker's material", and none of it is so off the wall that the regular conformist guy couldn't wear. Comfort and style, I love it. Browse and shop it at Le Bouclard.

You Do Funny Stuff In A Bathrobe
I know I do. For some reason I'm totally giddy and happy after a hot shower or a long bath. It makes me wanna sing, dance, prance, and if you're so inclined, pirouette in this very matrix-y bathrobe. The pattern is based on the movement of dancing Dervishes - you know those skirt wearing dancers that effortless spin like tops while staying perfectly centered. When you spin in this bathrobe, you get the same effect. The collar is one large, rolled-up bath towel. The sleeves are oversized so you can double back them. The result is a dashing, hussar-like appearance.
Now if you get your partner one, the both of you can reenact the great battle scene between Neo and Agent Smith.

The "I'm In Ur" Meme
Although the "im in ur" meme started off with virtual death and destruction (I'm in your base killing your d00dz), it was quickly overtaken by the legions of cute, fluffy, and irresistible. (And by that we mean cats.) Reclaim the phrase for the humans by captioning yourself. This shirt is full of write-on, wash-off goodness. Tell everyone you're in their noun verbing their noun! Bored with what you wrote this morning? Throw the shirt in the wash and think up a new saying. It's like Mad Libs meets Photoshop in a head-to-head deathmatch on your chest.
Imagine the possibilities! Visiting in-laws? We recommend, "im in ur offspring sproutin' ur family tree." Stuck at the office? May we suggest, "im in ur meeting eatin' ur donuts." Out for some wardriving? How about "im in ur unsecured network downloadin' ur pr0n." Techs could proudly wear their own "im in ur computer upgradin' ur RAM" shirts. Or for a more recursive bent, how about "im in ur lolbots crashin' ur server"?

Nevermind those people who call me names like "goat feet" or just gawk as I walk by. I'm not going to stop wearing them. Now with summer upon us, I need a new pair that lets me enjoy all the coolness of split toe while letting my feet breathe.

Polos With Shotgun Wounds
Last month I blogged about a new clothing company called Attus Apparel. They have a line of polos, each sporting the 6 archetypes of man. They just added another polo to that line up called "Shot Up". Basically they spent a weekend shooting up their polos with a shotgun and are now selling them. Before you ask why you would buy a shirt full of holes, the guys at Attus did it as a commentary to why people spend hundreds on ripped up jeans.
I agree with them. Any holes you find in my jeans came from wear and tear and I'm damn proud of them, especially the rips on my knees. Oops! Did I just say that?

So Ugly They'll Be A Hit
I'm gonna go out on a limb and proclaim these will be the new UGGS of 2007-2008. Even in hot ass weather you'll see people try and attempt to make it work. The Original Fake slippers are comfy, don't get me wrong but they don't belong outside the house. Hell, they don't even belong in any other part of the day except mornings. So what will make them rocket to mainstream success? Well for one, they're Japanese so you've got the whole, "OMG THEY'RE FOREIGN SO THEY MUST BE HOT" thing going. Second, they're design by American artist Kaws, hence the trademark cross x.

Clothes For Guys Who Express Themselves
The Hesher, the Sid, the Jerk, the Shredder, the 40 and the Hangover. Don't they sound like characters from a modern day remake of Dick Tracy? Actually they're the 6 personality types of clothing label Attus Apparel, each representing a style or mood any bloke can choose from.
The Hesher is a tribute to 80's big hair metal. The Sid is a tribute to punk rock. The Jerk is perfect for that cynical and sarcastic bastard. The Shredder is for snowboarders. The 40 is the most frugal way to get a party started and last but not least, the Hangover which is pretty damn self explanatory.
All the polos are made from 100% cotton with a slim fit. They're affordable too at only $54 each. I also think it's pretty genius to replace the monotonous animal logos we normally see on polos with something more expressive. I mean, I don't feel like an alligator or polo player every day. It's also a great way to advertise your personality in a place that requires strict attire. The next time you see a clean cut man with khakis and a polo, don't be fooled. Just look for the logo on his chest. It may tell you something.

The Five Statesmen
Socialsexuals is a term I made up to describe the 5 different groups of men who's identity can be easily characterized by their look and lifestyle. In general they share some common characteristics. They're stylish and fashion conscious. They're sometimes mistaken for and labeled gay. They are also better groomed than the "average" man. Most importantly, each one makes a bold statement. They stand out and that's why I call them Statesmen. So here's my breakdown of who's who and what's what in order of appearance.
EDUSEXUAL
They're the rarest of the socialsexuals. They have a strong desire to constantly learn thus their whole identity is fueled by it. Intellect is their modus operandam. They have a wonderful sense of self even tho they may not be as physically attractive as other socialsexuals. Their clothes are relaxed and harken to a collegiate life. Edusexuals possess the unique ability to mix and match clothes that seemingly don't match. Their grooming habits are also more relaxed. They keep their faces clean shaven and trim their body hair. The most they do with their hair is leave-conditioner and a light texturizer. Edusexuals are mostly found in suburban or college towns away from the big cities.
UBERSEXUAL
The ubersexuals are often confused with metrosexuals but they deserve a classification all their own. For starters, they're all incredibly fit. Their hairless bodies are chiseled and muscular thanks to a personal trainer. They're well traveled, cultured and incredibly respectful. They usually wear their hair short and keep it clean cut - nothing too fussy. Clothing is body conscious, usually tailored and expensive. They all share an affinity for high fashion and have no problems sporting large man-bags which contain water, vitamins, extra clothing, hand creme, lip conditioner, cologne and a smaller bag. Their skin is flawless from countless hours spent with a befriended Dermatologist and Cosmetologist. The most distinguishing characteristic of an ubersexual is confidence - the most dynamic, masculine, stylish, uncompromising and intimidating of all socialsexuals. They can be found in large cities in upper-class neighborhoods.
METROSEXUAL
The most well known of all socialsexuals, the metrosexual can be characterized as having an obsession with their appearance - sometimes grooming well beyond anything nature intended. Examples are shaped eyebrows, tans, styled and color treated hair. This misleads people to label them gay. They also follow trends more so than any other socialsexual spending a significant amount of money on clothing. This also extends into their lifestyle habits. They're trendy and always want the newest, hottest and latest. Some metrosexuals also wear make-up, not to hide flaws, but to accentuate their features. They also love accessories as it further helps distinguish their look. They stand out in crowds and are often admired by many women. Metrosexuals were once only found in urban cities but are now so prolific, can be found anywhere.
ECOSEXUAL
They're one of the newer statesmen to arrive on the scene. A number of recent events led to their birth, namely organic clothing finally reaching high fashion and the current trend to "go green". They're characterized as being extremely eco-friendly and environmentally conscience. Their morals and principals dictate their lifestyle which sets them apart from other socialsexuals. All clothing comes from organic cottons, hemp and other plant fibers. Their shoes come from a blend of plant fibers and recycled materials like plastic. They're fashionable but not as loud as other socialsexuals since their clothes only use organic dyes and environmentally friendly manufacturing processes. Totes and man-bags also come standard but again, only made from plant fibers or recycled materials. They're well groomed but the most relaxed of all socialsexuals, sometimes letting facial grow beyond the 12 o'clock barrier. Their most notable characteristic is the need to talk, sometimes preach the values of conservation and research for clean energy. Expect their homes to use the most energy efficient appliances and if they're not driving a hybrid, you'll find them riding a bike. They're mostly found in the west and north west United States and parts of Scandinavia.
TECHNOSEXUAL
This statesmen is not the geek or nerd many mislabel them as. They have a strong aesthetic sense just like other socialsexuals but also have a love for gadgets and technology. They're technophiles that have become metrosexual. They're characterized by having not only tons of gadgets, but the desire to have the latest and greatest. Like other socialsexuals, they have deep pockets but spend most it on electronics instead of clothes. They're technology's early adopters. What makes them technosexuals are the grooming and fashion habits found in other socialsexuals. Clothes are important but they prefer the casual approach. They care about their hair and skin just the same but again, take the relaxed approach. They don't heavily accessorize like metrosexuals but their man-bags are all about utility, often eschewing designer names for something that charges all their electronic goodies inside. The technosexual is hard to find in the wild since it detaches them from their computers, but many can be found online chatting. Many of them also have their own blogs and love to post their thoughts all over the blogsphere. Speaking of which, only technosexuals understand terminology like "blogsphere, AJAX, mark-up, IPTV, solid state memory, etc.

Say No To Jeans & Dress Shoes
I will be a fashion snob right now and tell you guys, STOP WEARING DRESS SHOES WITH JEANS! Sure it's the easy way out. You want to stay comfortable and casual but dress it up a bit. This is just plain wrong and I want to beat down the man in Milan who came up with it. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE!
Everywhere I look I see this atrocity. Young guys, older guys, cute guys and guys on vacation. If you're going to wear nice shoes, WEAR IT WITH NICE PANTS. Enough said.
All guys who march to their own drum beat can ignore this post. I know you're wild and don't follow any rules. This is just an FYI for the guys that follow mainstream.
My rant is done.

Bespoke Social Suicide
When you think about bespoke suits, you think of Saville Row in London. You think finely tailored clothes custom made to fit every nuance of your body. You think of the classics when men were gentlemen and the cut of their clothes defined class. So what happens when a man used to wearing ball gowns and tiaras in corporate meetings clashes with the world of Bespoke? You get Social Suicide.
One half behind the duo, Simon Waterfall (isn't his name awesome!) wore those ball gowns as an anti-statement until one day he couldn't wear them anymore. Suits are the order of the day when conducting business but Simon didn't want an ordinary suit so he started cutting, slashing and painting. Fast forward a little and we have the birth of Social Suicide; custom tailored clothing with funny and bold social statements .
Blazers with an AK-47 rifle sewn into the shoulder to look like you're packin' major heat. Suits with slashes strategically placed in key areas inspired by sharks. A suit with an embroidered bouquet on the back made to look like you're holding it when you reach around - a statement about legalizing gay marriages.
Aside from the social statements, these suits are bespoke made by London's best tailors. The craftsmanship can be seen in all the little details. Unique to the line are inventive touches like collar stiffeners, modified dress shirts that tuck into pants without all the extra bulk around the waist and invisible pockets in your cuffs to hold business cards.
The best part about this line is its price with suits starting at just £200. Saville Row bespoke suits usually start at £2,000. I'm fawning over the jacket inspired by the scouts and can't wait for my planned tripped to London next year.

A Handsfree Handbag
Blurring the lines between a bag and clothing, Arret a Porter is functional fashion. The bell sleeve is actually a compartment accessed by a zipper. The wearer slips it on like a sling but from certain angles, it looks more like a fashionable clothing accessory.

Risky But Doable
Just a little fashion warning. If you can pull off a horizontal striped hoodie without looking wrong, then you my friend are a rare breed. They're on sale now at Urban Outfitters for $19.
So why are horizontal stripes risky? They either make you look fat or too skinny. In fact the only guys who can wear it are the ones with average builds, broad shoulders and a medium length torso. AVERAGE people, not slightly overweight, not muscular, not skinny - just average.

A Social Network for Fashion Designers
I know I know. It's another social network, but this one I like. IQONS is the MySpace Music of Fashion Designers. Everyone from the start-up in mom's garage to established boutiques networks and makes friends here.
Membership is free and already the amount of people on there is overwhelming. In other words, there are a lot of Fashion Designers out there and yet the world remains so style challenged, but I digress. IQONS lets you browse other designers, establish friendship links and post upcoming events. It even has a "hot or not" type feature called 15 Minutes of Fame. There's also an AWESOME resource called Catwalk Rating which has pictures from damn near every major Fashion Week around the world.
So if your a Fashion Designer looking for your peers, now you've found them. Try it out. You might like it.

Beetle Inspired Armor
Inspired by the science of biometrics, Poc Lab researchers designed body armor inspired by beetles; insects known to be incredibly strong.
The base garments consist of stretchy mesh fabric, hugging the body. Modular armor pieces are then added to provide strength and protection to the stomach, shoulders, back and quads. The technology behind the armor allows it to stay flexible for ease of mobility without sacrificing protection.
You'd think this high-tech armor was designed for military applications but it's not. It's designed for outdoor enthusiasts, particularly those at risk of tumbling, i.e. skiers and snowboarders.

Shoe Addictions
Hi, my name is Electro and I have a shoe addiction. I buy shoes even when I don't need them. I buy shoes and may never even wear them. Worst of all, I buy shoes in the wrong size because that's all they had.
I know I know. I got issues. Between shoes and being gadget obsessed, you can imagine my bank account gets hit hard. So now, I do sell my shoes and try to recoup some of the money and I've restricted myself to only buying when it's on sale.
Tips
- Try to do your shoe shopping at smaller stores. Be a frequent visitor. Befriend the owners. In time, you'll be working that sale discount way before the shoe officially goes on sale.
- Men are usually forced/required to be more conservative in dress for whatever reasons so shoes are about all you have that can really express your personality.
On that note, I wanna give a shout-out to shoe stores Undefeated, Yoox, and Oki-ni.

Issey Miyake TRAPEZOID Watch
I'm in love with this retro-futuristic watch. The TRAPEZOID by famed designer Naoto Fukasawa for Issey Miyake is finally showing up in shops and it's gorgeous!
Manufactured by Seiko, stainless steel, water resistant, standard calendar and chronograph with four different dial colors to choose from. If you're wondering why it's called Trapezoid then you'll have to hit the jump link.

From it's profile and lateral view you can see the face itself is quite thick rising at an angle, sure to set off any wrist and cuff nicely. Look for them at your Issey Miyake stores in New York, Paris and London.

Nike Japan Has Better Ads
Now I'm not saying North American Nike ads suck. They're quite good but the Japanese ads seem to take more artistic liberty and risk.
Commissioned as an animated viral short to promote the Nike Meta7 shoe, illustrator Paul Huang teamed up with animators Chris Riehl and Sean Starkweather to deliver a surrealist cell shaded fantasy. The story revolves around an anthropomorphized circle, square and triangle who escape their oppressive lives to be transformed into something better thru an encounter with the Meta7 shoe.
The animated short is accompanied by a print and sculpture campaign touring Asia. I wish I were able to see it in person. The art style looks fantastic - almost good enough to make me wanna run out and buy a pair of Nike Meta7's.

I'm Fussy About Bags
I'm a sucker for bags. I carry so much stuff with me, it's impossible without some sort of carriage. When i do buy bags, I usually go all out and drop lots of cold hard-earned cash for one that exudes quality, luxury, and utility.
Isaburo is a Japanese leather goods brand known for all three characteristics. I'm currently fawning over the Rucksack bag which works as a messenger bag, hand bag and backpack. The hard shell Rucksack is covered in soft leather meticulously hand-stitched on. Every nook and cranny on this bag screams high-quality. Its innards contain a bevy of compartments and pockets to hold everything from a laptop to iPod.
$699, anyone want to buy me one?

King of Games Sweet Parka
Hoodies are such a great thing. Truly an excess in comfort but I don't know anyone who doesn't own at least one. I have a collection of them I wear at home and out on errands.
The new Legend of Zelda theme'd hoodies from King of Games has raised hardcore lust (sounds perverse doesn't it) in me. The hoodies celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Zelda series by bearing its coat and arms. What's even cooler is a side pocket to hold your Nintendo DS.

My Straight Secret
That title is misleading huh? No, I'm not talking about my sexual orientation. I'm talking about flat irons.
Listen, that super slick straight hair you see all the celebs rockin' (ahem - I'm looking at the Beckhams) is not natural, it's flat ironed.
So because my home is brimming with hair products, some friends of mine have asked me a few times what to use to get their hair slick and straight (guys included). Up until now, I've just recommended some products by Redken and Matrix. Now I'm going to tell you the truth. The secret is a flat iron and the reason why I've avoided telling people is because it's an expensive one.
The Chi flat iron is pricey at almost $100 for the basic model. Like most modern irons it's the ceramic type, but it's the heat it generates that separates it from the $20 models you get at your local Walmart. This bit of wisdom was passed on to me by my hair stylist. Hair is quite strong. It can withstand extreme heat but not for very long. Chi flat irons get hot (although you wouldn't know it by touch), so one quick and steady motion is all that's needed to get your hair smooth. The cheaper flat irons run at lower temperatures forcing you to slowly drag the iron across your hair exposing it to heat for much longer periods. The end result is brittle hair that breaks.
Now this post may seem like "women only" but guys can use flat irons to achieve hair styles that defy gravity. Men, even if you have short hair, run the Chi flat iron across it. You get smooth strands that stand up. Put in your favorite hair texturizer and you'll have an amazing look.
So there you have it . . . from my knowledge, now yours.

Nintendo Legacy Classics
Attention Nintendo fanboys and sneaker enthusiasts. I present to you your next pair of sneakers from Run Athletics. It's called the Nintendo Legacy Classic, an official collab-effort with the company.
The sneakers have a monogram pattern of classic Nintendo characters with the company logo on the back heel. On the bottom and insoles, you'll find Mario and Yoshi in proud stance.
The sneakers are just a sneak peak into what Run Athletics has in store for 2007; hopefully more collaborations like this. No price set yet but you know, I WANT ONE BADLY!

Cockpit
When I think of aviator fashion, I think of bomber jackets, goggles, distressed wovens, durability and craftsmanship. It's a very specific look lost to the advancement of time but designer Jeff Clyman (founding member of Avirex) updates the look with his new menswear label Cockpit.
Inspired by machines known for power and adventure, Cockpit sets itself apart from other menswear labels by offering something classic and timeless. The Spring/Summer 2007 collection harkens to a bygone era of American culture but manages to update the look with modern cut, fit, washes and treatments. You've got your graphic tees, your blazers, knits and chinos but it's the outerwear I'm really impressed with. The military inspired look is void of current trends, instead relying on a soft distressed look, interesting collars, multiple pockets and muted masculine colors.
There are some really standout pieces here and so perfect for the man who wants to look fashionable without feeling trendy. Who says the sportsman and adventurer can't look good?

No More Cloak
I am so sad to hear that American menswear designer Alexandre Plokhov has announced the Spring 2007 collection for Cloak is the last. It's definitely a blow to American menswear fashion. The designer doesn't go into detail about why he's exiting the business but based on his interview with Style, one can deduce it has all to do with bad business contracts. When asked what one piece of advice he'd give to new independent designers, he answers, "get a lawyer to read thru everything you're about to sign."
Cloak really was (is) a bright spot in American menswear fashion. It helped place New York back on the world scene as a menswear fashion capital like Milan and London in a time when established American clothing labels like Donna Karen, Ralph Lauren and Calvin Klein had succumb to brand licensing.
When asked what he'll do next, Alexandre jokingly says it's time to learn another language and may even take up gardening. You go boy!

A Full-Zip Sweater
Don't underestimate them. They usually look bad on display so it's definitely a "try before you buy" type situation. These sweaters usually come slightly fitted hugging only the right places with enough stretch to free your stomach from over-zealous eating. Even then, you still look great. They also help huskier guys look slimmer as they broaden your shoulders and the best sweaters are the ones with intricate weaving around the stomach to shape and minimize. Com'on, just because you're a guy doesn't mean you don't care about how you look, especially if you're a guy reading this blog.
So here are my two favorite full-zip sweaters this season. First up, we have one from Strelli. The cut is clean and fit - modern. The ribbing curves and weaves downwards giving the illusion of length and slimness. The collar is slightly stiff so you can easily dress it up with a dress shirt or dress it down with a tee. It's a little pricey but when you're shopping for a sweater, SPEND. They're meant to be worn-in and last.
For those on a strict budget, try the Merino Wool full-zip sweater from J.Crew. The style, fit and cut are similar to the Strelli but at only $95, much more affordable. What I like about this is the double headed reverse zipper letting you free the hem at the bottom. Zip it like the man in the above picture and the zipper track helps create the same hourglass silhouette needed to make you look slim. It's also smart looking dressed up for a holiday party.

Ikepod Horizon
Ikepod relaunches with one of the most beautiful watches I've seen in a long while. Renowned Industrial Designer Marc Newson does it again creating simplicity out of complexity. The Horizon watch is GORGEOUS and this is coming from someone who thinks watches are an archaic piece of technology when we have time displays on phones.
The unique circular hexagonal honeycomb creates an optical illusion making it appear convex, hence its namesake - the horizon. In reality, the face is completely flat. The illusion is created using a mathematical formula in the spacing and size of each honeycomb cell. Even the back is beautiful with its smooth metal surface and a tiny porthole so you can watch the inner magic that occurs inside all timepieces. I have no idea how much it costs but it comes in three different colors for both men and women.

I-M Clothing
Thanks to Josh Spear, I've discovered another t-shirt line I like called I-Manifest. I'll save you the details behind the company's aspirations because I want to focus on two designs from their past and current collections.
The Polka-Dot shirt is hand dyed and only 5 were made and at only $50 each, that's a huge bargain. It's not often you can find tee's with a unique sense of design and know only 4 other people in the world have them.
My other fav is the Eclipse from their current collection. The abstract brightly colored patterns look more like coffee stains left by Anna Sui but set on a black background, they defintely achieve their manifest. I'm also loving how the pattern wraps around the body.
5 of their shirt designs are currently in the "To A T" exhibition at the Museum of Design in Atlanta and although they pose the question "T-Shirt culture, cute or couture?" (I say cute because couture would be an incorrect use of the word), I wish I were in Altanta to see it.

An Australian company claims they have invented the "wonderbra" for men. The new undergarments lift and separate your eggroll and dumplings to make you look fuller, regardless of what your real size is.
So go ahead and wear that speedo. As you can see from the picture above, you can have that much and maybe more if you were blessed to begin with.

Pinch and Pull a Tee
I'm not a huge fan of the new tees from Amkashop - there are a few standout pieces in there. I'm more interested in the fun and kooky ad campaign featuring models seemingly suspended by wires strategically snapped into their clothing to show the design. They should have taken it a step further and green screen in some backgrounds, i.e. this guy strung up amongst the redwoods in California would have been hot!

Symbiotic Relationships: Parasite and Host
To further explore the complex relationships of nature, growth and survival, friends hosts and parasites demonstrate these relationships using fashion as a template.
Printed Organism is a jacket with a artificially living and growing organism that comes to life with vivid patterns and illumination when worn. Just like a parasite, it crawls and bends to the body relying on the structure of the body to sustain itself. However, when the host removes the jacket, the parasite begins to die slowly, mimicking how in nature, a symbiotic relationship can not exist without coexistence.

Wicked Silver Shoes
Those ruby slippers from Oz have nothin' on these silver bad boys. Bottega Veneta outdid themselves this time and I've been waiting forever for the price to drop. I knew they wouldn't sell out since it takes a certain level of bravery to wear them in public but how can you say no? The gorgeous nappa leather inserts and basket weave pattern treated with the most metallics of silver metallics makes it a must have item for my wardrobe.
Best of all, only $490. I think someone needs to buy me a pair, size 44.5 - thanks.
