Zorb - A Giant Hamster Ball

Zorb

A few years ago a TV advertisement aired in New Zealand showing people inside a large clear ball floating on water. It Inspired Andrew Akers and Dwane van der Sluis to build their own giant plastic ball. It looked like lots of fun but their ball was made of only one layer of plastic causing problems. Everytime someone entered or exited the ball, it would deflate and needed to be re-inflated and sealed.

The idea for a double skin ball was born.

A prototype was built in the garage of Andrew's house and they tested it in the water but soon realized it was far more intense on land where they could roll down hills! Some seed capital, patents, trademarks and a business plan equaled the latest adventure sport in New zealand, ZORBING!

"Zorbing is not that serious ... " says Akers, "The experience is bizarre, funny and exhilarating. The most common reaction inside the Zorb is screams of laughter - people exit from the Zorb with massive smiles on their faces and tears of joy in their eyes."

There are Zorb affiliates in Europe, Asia, Australia and of course New Zealand, but nothing going on in the US yet so this is my call out to those that got the resources but no idea yet! Here's an IDEA - be the first American to Zorb on American soil and start your Zorb franchise. Los angeles would be the ultimate location with weather allowing us to Zorb both wet and dry all year around. I can't wait!

Continue to see me battle electro!

Zorbs are in LA... I personally have seen them while watching Celebrity Fit Club (VH1.)

I love this thing. I've always wanted to do it. I think they had it on the Amazing Race and it had some water inside it. I don't remember which country they were in, but I really wanted to roll around in this thing.

where can i buy one in californa?

Posted by: marco at July 18, 2006 11:52 AM

you can't buy a zorb and no they ain't no $275...the price is going to be over 5 grand if they would even sell them retail which they aren't going to do for some time. They will first offer franchises and then under certain stringent guidelines, but thinking you can custom order a $275 zorb is, at the moment, far-fetched. Now, if you have plenty of money at your disposal, then yes, I bet at the right price you could get your personal zorb, but for the average middle-income man it will be a few years and a high price tag.

Posted by: tony at July 19, 2006 7:21 PM

there are similar balls, but lack the "zorb" unique inner-hold, you can get for near $1000

I have 3 units of this giant Ball...all brand new. It is not the Z brand...It is Xoorbit, a Canadian brand...I sell them $4000 each + $300 shipping. It is same quality as the Z brand. But much cheaper (Z does not sell to public), they only sell the business franchise...I also have a 15 foot inflatable ramp if anyones wants to use as for business at the beach. Ramp cost is $12 000 (6 meter high, 10 meter long, + stopper + 2 blowers + 40 meters of PE floor rubber mat) These are high quality products ...Will give discount if you buy all 3 balls and ramp...All the goods are in Panama City, Panama. I bought them because I wanted to run the business in Panama...But I have to move back to Canada, so I am selling them at low price ...If you see other cheaper ones, you have to pay attention...the cheaper balls are thinner and ligher, thus get damaged very easily..so it won't save you money...If you are interested, e mail me and I will send pictures and we can go from there.
All goods are Brand New!

I rode in a zorb ball recently and it was awesome. It truly is a different experience. I almost threw up afterwards though because i was already feeling sick before the ride. Anyways i did a little investigation to see if I could buy one for myself. Turns out there is a website that sells these zorb balls (but they call them Zorbanauts) for about $3000 each. Website is www.zorbasales.com . I've been in touch with the company and they seem pretty legit. I may have one myself soon!!!! Hope this helps.

Anyone selling our type of products are selling cheap knock-offs. They puncture easily and get so scratched that you can barely see out of them. They weigh over 200 pounds and you will get very tired pushing these up a hill. Everyone who has bought the cheap knock-offs were disgusted and could not get a refund. Some people were ripped-off because the "company" was in China or some other foreign location. They sent the money, and received no merchandise. They lost the money, period. Anyone who claims they make our product is lying! Our product is made in New Zealand by our own company. We do not sell the Zorbs for safety and practical reasons. (And they cost alot!)We are opening our site in Pigeon Forge TN the summer of 2007. www.zorb.com (865)428-2422

Posted by: Winston at March 22, 2007 5:40 PM

Our company are UK distributers for the Hyper Core and Hydro Core Balls. These are very similar to Zorb/Zorbing Balls; however, we are not associated with Zorb in any way.

We offer logo branding, custom sizes, and multicolored internal string ties.

With the balls ranging from £979.00 - £1100.00 we are the cheapest supplier of this prodcut. Discounts are available on multiple purchases.
Our international shipping rates are also very reasonable.

For additional information please feel free to view our website www.hyper-core.co.uk or emaul info@hyper-core.co.uk.

Do watch the flash animation, we're quite proud of it...

sadly you cant buy Zorbs. But there are some copy products around. and is you were going to make them, then id try some 0.5mm thick pvc, a bit of bungy cord, and some "polymarine" specialist glue. If you had the time, this would cost about £500.

I bought one of the copy-cat hyper core balls who are trying to copy the Zorb and it was crap!! I paid over $1000 plus shipping to the US and it ripped easily and could not be fixed. When I tried to use it before it ripped, it was very heavy to push up a hill. After doing that a couple of times I knew it was a waste of money. Now it just sits in my garage wasting space. The company will not give refunds so I am stuck and out of the cash! If they were here in the US I would sue the pants of them!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I guess they didn't cross their fingers tight enough as mentioned above. Is that why this is crap? The science of "put it together and hope there are no problems"??!! I would suggest to everyone considering getting a hyper core ball to just save time and put a match to the $1000.00 you are about to waste and forget it!

ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS ANSWERS
"Zorb balling" is called "zorbing", where a person will enter into an inflated 10-13ft tall (hamster ball) clear pvc or tpu plastic ball's inner 5-8ft inner sphere (much like yoke in an egg) through a port hole.
Once inside this inner ball, suspended in the middle of the larger ball by hundred of nylon strands, and cousioned by about two feet of air between inner and outer ball, he/she will strap into a five point harness and be rolled down a hill.
Depending on where you go, the sky is the limit for games and applications with this product
"Gladiator Ball" is playing competitive games such as sumo wrestling, human-pool, bowling (you're the ball), pin-ball, or run through a maze full of boobytraps.
"Hypersphering" is rolling down a hill stapped in a harness and flipping
"Hydrosphering is when you add two buckets of water to take friction out of the ball, and roll down the hill without the harness, you slide in the ball on the water .
No matter how you slice it, what Zorb balling is....is awesome, and ZorbNewEngland concours every facet there is to try, right here in the USA
