A Waterless Toilet

Ecojohn 01

The man behind the toilet is Swedish designer Pelle Petterson whom also designed the Volvo P1800 and Maxi boats.

Eco John is a waterless toilet that uses an incineration process to eliminate waste.

When you push the flush button, both liquid and solid waste are reduced to ash. The ash is so fine that the holding tank only needs to be emptied once a year. It also makes for a fine garden fertilizer if you add it to a compost heap.

Eco John's process is non-toxic and emits no odor, which I know is true having tested it myself.

Its design is typical Scandinavian; clean, elegant and simple. Eco John is almost completely maintenance free. It works off the grid and most importantly is environmentaly friendly. If this isn't a product of the 21st century, then I don't know what is.

Eco John was recently introduced in the US and I know they would be more than happy to answer any questions about their products but first visit their site for all the appropriate information.

Hmm, poo ash. That could be very dangerous in the wrong hands.

Isn't the process of heating and burning more energy consuming than flushing a toilet? Doesn't this defeat the purpose?

EcoJohn is not very energy consuming, he only needs a 12 V external re-chargable battery or Its also possible to use 110 V or 220 V electricity.

The heating and burning is done without fumes or toxics. It is also achieved through the same process as the heat over time (approx. 6 months) slowly dries the waste rather then burns it. End result is less then a cup of ash in 6 months!

Eco Johns purpose is to preserve water. 1/3 of the world’s population lives in areas that have moderate or severe water shortage. It is estimated that the amount of water available to each individual will be cut in half over the next 25 years.

Very interesting. But one with bathroom and 25 minutes between full solid burns for this guy, my wife and I can no longer enjoy coffee at the same time. :-)
