Harry Potter And Star Wars Are Very Similar
It's possible to argue all the great stories we identify with share the same core elements. What do you think?

That last point totally convinced me. Haha!

Well whaddya know, Joseph Campbell was right.

this shit is really lame. Star wars is the shit, and harry potter is a pussy fart
Posted by: Lookout Joe at May 11, 2007 1:43 PM
Never underestimate the power of the pussy fart!

"Harry Potter and the Bucket of Warm Spittle"... (not a Harry Potter fan but it is good that it has brought so many children to reading books for enjoyment)...

YOU CANNOT compare a book and a movie. This is such a basic story line im sure their are many other stories that substitue words in all those places as well. The harry potter boosk do not revolve solely around quiditch games, which is indicated here. harry potter is way more complicated than starwars, this is dumb.

I am not a fan of either but i do like starwars more then the stupid harry potter series and it may be true that other movies/books have the same story line but still the harry potter series needs to die cause im sure people agree with me that a 13 yr old kid is saving the world from 200 year old wizards kinda makes a dumb series

^^^
And the idea of a twenty something y.o. orphan who saves the universe from a galactic foe is anymore believable?
Posted by: Marcus Harold at May 11, 2007 6:04 PM
Both are based on the basic literary structure of the hero's quest. So what?
Posted by: Andrew at May 11, 2007 8:36 PM
Well I like both and I thought It was funny

I sense Star Wars nerds around here. You're no better than the Harry Potter nerds. In fact, you're worse, cause you're 35 and still a nerd.

This whole argument over harry potter and star wars is completely pointless to what this was supposed to signify...
its just trying to point out the similarities in story lines of major series
star wars and hp just happened to be the two examples used

Seriously guys, this is intended to be funny. It's not something to argue about. Just laugh and move on. Sheesh...
Star Wars > Harry Potter
Posted by: JM at May 13, 2007 8:36 PM
i agree with the 2 guys above me its a joke(laugh it up) and seriously if you have to defend ether movie/book your a lame ass

Indeed it is a recipe for a hero.
George Lucas worked from Joseph Campbell's Hero Schema to create the Star Wars Saga... there is a prescribed path for the hero (Luke, or was is Anakin?? this is intentionally unclear).
From miraculous birth through each threshold crossing, the circle must be followed.
It only makes sense that Harry would follow the same path. It's tried and true, and apparently the resurgence of the classic hero is $$ for Potter!

wow, the comments were almost as funny as the actual content. He's just saying their most basic stories were similar. I like the part about the rescuer having a beard. Such a coincidence! XD

Monomyth.
that's all.
Posted by: Valgaav at May 19, 2007 3:02 PM
haha it left out the part where harry potter and luke gets fucked in the ass...
fuck harry potter and fuck the imperial alliance.

Hey I know maybe Luke is Harry’s long lost, blond,
muggle, 20 year old cousin.

I like the music in both, and the drama and intrigue of all the stories even though the above dialogues don't have musical accompaniment or popcorn. I was listening to Black Sabbath while I read them.
You all make me laugh, cry, sigh, and ride the crest of euphoria! Well, not quite. You should try harder next time.
Well, anyway, that is what a good movie or story or experience is supposed to do! Otherwise there would be no joy in hospital, tended to by Nurse Cratchet!
Vin Diesel, Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Jolie, Bronson, Siegal, and Denis Hopper, all thrill me with their action, too.

I was taught in 8th grade that their are only about 14 or so story plots and Shakespeare wrote them all excellent example of that .
all stories share an element of plot .
not worth nitpicking what matters in the end is the execution of that story , properly fleshing it out.... .

similarity No.10 if it were gamers who were the main characters both would have been over and done with by the end of the first chapter

I though it was pretty cool how they made Harry Potter and Star Wars look so similar, but they're really not. By the way anyone here who says star wars is better that harry potter is a complete dumbass, star wars will NEVER be as good as Harry Potter.
STARWARS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!

J.K. Rawlings proved that she has no original ideas when she blatantly stole Franz Kafka's torture device from "In the Penal Colony." A magic pen that carves your crime into your skin as you write it on paper (HP) = a torture device that carves your crime into your body over and over again until you die (ITPC). If she obviously stole that, is it any surprise to anyone that she would steal the rest of the story from someone else?
Ugh, I hate Harry Potter. Don't really care too much for Star Wars, but Potter is just dumb.
