I'm Totally Going To Try This

Field Bulbs

So check this out. It's HELLA old but I just came across it on Make's blog. Anyway, it was an installation by artist Richard Box simply entitled "Field". 1301 fluorescent bulbs placed vertically underneath high power lines light up just from the ambient energy surrounding the wires!

My apartment is right next to high power lines just like this. They're not as big but they're definitely giant metal structures. The city attempted to disguise them by building a park around the neighborhood but the soft buzzing noise I hear at night when I walk my dog reminds me of what's lurking there. Anyway, I have a couple fluorescent tubes laying around. I'm totally going to try this. If I don't return, you'll know I've been electrocuted.

UPDATE 1: Didn't work. I did some more research and learned TONS of energy would be needed to do this. Although the electrical towers outside my building are the big kind, they're not the mega big kind. Those are only found in unpopulated areas for obvious reasons.

Best of luck :D

I will miss you Tran.

:)) I'll look you up with my Google Earth. That bright spot next to a giant metal structure disguised as a park, right?

You live under power lines?! i think that causes cancer.
when the emergency room is treating you for electrocution, ask them to check for cancer.

Looks like HAARP to me.

lmao! that's like a tragi-comedy.

but to be honest, your blog is really the only insight into a possible grand future that i would truly enjoy. that being said, that field looks freaking cool, and try not to die emulating it hahaha.

so... did it work?
