The Mickey Player Touches Down
Finally it's here! The iriver Mplayer I so lovingly gushed over in February hits stores all over South Korea today. Designed in conjunction with the Magic Kingdom, this pong sized Mplayer sports the famous Mickey head silhouette. The ears act as your basic player controls with the main power button on the side of the head. Between the ears is a standard headphone jack and on the bottom is a mini USB port for syncing. Although screenless it more than makes up for it in cuteness factor.
The Mplayer comes with 1GB of memory and barely weighs 18 grams. MP3, WMA, and ASD formats are supported as long as they're unprotected. No word yet on when or if ever the rest of the world will see the player in stores. For now, it's South Korea only selling for $60.
Tons more pictures after the jump. 56k users, don't even think about it.

While this idea is cute I must say I see a lot of flaws with this.
first off, you must look at it everytime you need to change a song due to its symmetry. On my ipod (no i won't rant about how much i love apple), i can change songs while on my bike in my pocket while still lookng at traffic ecause i can feel which side the buttons are on and then i know which button. on this, you wouldnt know if it was backwards from a quick touch and there for couldn't distinguish next/previous from volume until you tried one or looked at the player and turned it around to orient it properly.
also the idea of flicking the ear as a button is more trouble than its worth in cuteness. With its spherical design, and small scale it would easily slip out of hand if not secured with the right grip. also not good for changing songs when you have it hooked up to speakers on a table because it does not lay flat. Also seems very uncomfortable i pocket and doesnt seem like those ears would handle a fall well.
Cute? a bit.
Design: laughable.
i'd like to hear other opinions though.

def kawai... but that groofy gadget isn't fitting into my pocket.
looks like it'd make a nifty air-freshener tho.
besides, when it comes to mp3 players, the iPod clip-on shuffle is all anyone needs... and it's such the cheapo nickle-98 that not only does it mock theft and/or loss... but also makes an ideal giftable.

Michael, dude. . .
It's Mickey's head! That's fucking awesome. Pardon my language. Yea the iPod shuffle is probably a better player but people will buy this for the same reason they'll pay $2 extra for pancakes shaped like Mickey's head at Disney World. Me being one of those people.
Why you hatin' on Mickey man?

haha i have no problem with mickey mouse. unfortunately the shape of his head isn't good for much more than well....the shape of his head. it would be very interesting to see a concept of spheres being used in modern technology as opposed to the paper thin (or thinner) dream that well all have currently. but, i dont this that's this products intention.

It's cute, and I think that's pretty much what they were aiming for. And it's got mickey's head— a severely loved icon— which in the ends means money. I don't think it was created much for the purpose of functionality...
And in the end.. it is disney. A lot of disney merch wasn't meant to make sense.. just make money..
