States In Action, A Climate Crisis

climate_action_map.jpg

Yes my current home state of California may have a Republican Governor whom may have once traveled back in time to save John, but it's also one of the few states to agree to reduce gas emissions by 15% below 2005 levels by 2020. The initiative will cost millions but each state is participating in different programs to create new "greener" industries to replace the older pollutant heavy ones. Unfortunately, it's only the liberal states in the west and north east who are participating. The whole of America either is thinking about it or don't see fit in it at all. Cough; Texas.

Um, Arizona's been mostly conservative since inception, or at least in the 18 years that I've been here. The only thing liberal about the state is its odd penchant for electing female governors recently.

Female Governors? That is pretty liberal!

for the record, i believe that chicago has more green roofs than any other major us city, and i have a hunch than mayor daley wants his legacy of being a green mayor to expand and continue... plus, it was announced today that BP has agreed not to increase the amount of toxic chemicals they dump into Lake Michigan, and to seek out alternate methods to expand their production. it was indiana who had granted BP permission to do so in the first place, but was aggressively protested by Illinois politicians environmental groups and residents, so maybe we're not all backwards hayseeds in the midwest... we are slightly liberal, earth-conscious ones. :)

Florida is a conservative state my good friend.

Nobody ever said Florida was a liberal state.

Well, that's sad to see that so many states don't care about the environment, and it's even more sad to see that the states that do care only want to reduce gas emissions by 15% in 15 years. 15% isn't enough, not at all. And it will be much too late by 2020...

:(

Texas actually has more wind turbines than any other state! I'm not kidding.

I'm from Massachusetts, myself. Every state has a lot to do. As a country, we're lagging. It's not that there aren't people that care; there are just so many road blocks to a renewable future.
