No More Arctic Ice By 2030, WOOF!

artic_dogs.jpg

This is maddening people. This summer has seen the largest arctic melt ever recorded in human history. Experts said they were "stunned" by the loss of ice, with an area almost twice the size of Britain disappearing in the last week alone. So much ice has melted this summer that the north-west passage across the top of Canada is fully navigable, and observers say the north-east passage along Russia's Arctic coast could open later this month. If the increased rate of melting continues, the summertime Arctic could be totally free of ice by 2030.

Think about that for a minute. No more ice in the Arctic. Can you imagine that?

That's scary. What'll happen to all the arctic animals?

That crazy.
I live in the artic, its not getting any warmer. you could "fully navigate" the passage 20 years ago. the weather changes. its a fact. But now everytime it dose, people freak out and make it a problem, or a situation. Crazy!

due to global warming, by 2015 or 2020 the Northwest Passage will be open to commercial shipping for five or six months a year. there was a Canadian gov't declaration in April that the Northwest Passage would no longer be classified as "Canadian territorial waters." the Northwest Passage will be "Canadian internal waters" over which Canada exercises complete control. this designation means that foreign ships enjoy the right of innocent passage, BUT foreign warships must seek permission.
the U.S. has long denied that the Northwest Passage is even Canadian territorial waters, insisting instead that it is "international waters." Washington has sent warships through frequently deliberately not asking permission, which threatens Canadian security. U.S. nuclear submarines also routinely trespass sneaking beneath the ice.
the U.S. Navy needs to get out and stay out of our Canadian arctic waters. The Alaska coastline does not extend to Newfoundland !!
