Federal Judge Rules Bloggers Are Journalists
I'm not sure how it is in other countries but in the U.S., bloggers did not have the same protection journalists had, that is until today. A federal judge ruled that bloggers are now protected as journalists and are afforded all the same rights under the 1st amendment - freedom of speech, freedom of the press.
The whole ordeal started when a blogger name Philip Smith got in trouble for using the corporate logo of a company he had a bad experience with in a scathing post. I didn't even know that was illegal. In true American fashion the company went after him and soon lawsuits were flying. But instead of bowing down, he decided to fight. So if you're a blogger and happen to run into someone by the name of Philip Smith, please thank him. This should make it a lot easier to get press passes to conventions and expos now.

thank you for posting this. sometimes people look at me like i have 16 heads when i tell them that i write an online publication. this ruling helps to validate what we all are doing here to those who are dismissive or unaware.
