Music From Here And Back

Mayalbums

2008 has been pretty good to me in terms of music. My diverse tastes have definitely been satisfied and it's only May! Here are my top 15 albums of 2008 with mention of a few that almost made it.

  1. The Presets - Apocalypso (80's vocals with modern electronic production)
  2. Santogold - Santogold (A little bit M.I.A. with less island, more rock)
  3. Portishead - Third (Nothing like their previous records but a gem nonetheless)
  4. M83 - Saturdays=Youth (I think of him as the French version of The Cure)
  5. Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours (80's new wave galore! Think New Order, OMD, Thompson Twins)
  6. The Myriad - With Arrows, With Poise (If Deathcab and Postal Service had incestuous babies)
  7. The Cool Kids - The Bake Sale (Reinventing hip-hop, thinking outside the box)
  8. The Ting Tings - We Started Nothing (Raw hipster bar sound, iPod commercial)
  9. Midnight Juggernauts - Dystopia (David Bowie if he went electronic/house)
  10. Foxboro Hot Tubs - Stop Drop And Roll (Green Day band members playing a garage)
  11. Carolina Liar - Coming To Terms (Just good rock music mm'kay)
  12. Dj Ricardo - Anthems 3 (Straight up partyin' house music for the summer)
  13. Sam Sparro - Sam Sparro (Soulful white boy. Jamie Lidell with an electronic edge)
  14. Ladytron - Velocifero (Bitches are back. Rock meets electronic music)
  15. Kaskade - Seduction (The best in San Francisco house music)

Honorable mention:

  1. Jesse McCartney - Departure (I'm a sucker for pop music. Reminds me of Brandy 10 years ago)
  2. Duffy - Rockferry (Blues, country, and a sober Amy Winehouse)
  3. Adele - 19 (Contemporary folk music with a soulful twist)
  4. Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles (Evokes vintage video game soundtracks)
  5. The B-52's - Funplex (New Wave dance rock with an emphasis on fun)
