No No No No Not Nau!
Today is a really sad day for me. One of my favorite clothing lines Nau is going out of business. This comes as a shock to me as I read the very personal letter posted on their website. Despite being a business built on ecological and sustainable ideals - the downward spiral of America's economy has basically forced the company to close its doors.
For me this is only discouragement since I have based much of my research into launching my own line thru studying Nau's business model. The company doesn't just preach using organic and sustainable materials. They advocate a total paradigm shift in the entire life cycle of clothing, creating a closed loop system by where resources are extracted responsibly and at the end of its life - goes back to feed the system instead of rotting away in landfills. Unfortunately the hardships of challenging a very deeply entrenched system has left the company too battle scarred to continue on.
In the meantime we can enjoy major sales as the company clears out its stock. Their clothes are minimal but exquisitely designed and constructed - the type of quality consumers don't normally associate with organic products. Don't be fooled. These clothes are more high-end than labels trotting out of New York and Europe.
Thank you Nau for being so bold, daring, and inspirational.

That sucks. If I had won the lottery jackpot instead of the measly $3, I would definitely try to help them somehow...
Around half of the clothes that fits me that i have is from them, too.
:((((((( D: T______T

THIS SUCKS!
When Cloak shut its doors, Versace hired Alex to be their menswear designer. Maybe the world will exercise some justice and one of those landfill factories (wal-mart, LVMH, etc) will let Nau restructure them.

and yet that crud American Apparel continues to survive... there is no justice.

I am sorry to say that it was somewhat predictable. I am not certain of Nau complete sustainablity and there was a crapload of marketing hype around it. The execution was slow and looked quite costly. To me, it appears that yet again, to many MBAs and not enough street cred... I see stuff like this everyday... And yes, american apparel is crap but I`d rather get a philippa k T than a nau T. Finally, the designs weren't really that great... sorry to be so blunt but there seems to be a lot of eco confusion out there.

and by the way ``when the economy builds up again`` HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAAH sorry I juts chocked on my toast... is that with or without your car guzzling economy, with or without your spiralling quest to occupy middle east. Amercians are SLEEPING on the switch baby, WAKE UP !

You can visualise the Nau self serve automated computerised system for fit and pricing and you realise that you need a phd to buy stuff and that the guy who created the system was never into retail... The movie is very telling, you see the different terminals not being served at all, then you see little ladies in total confusion walking around the store...
