Post-Car Japan?
The JDM companies are panicking. Car sales have dropped 33% since 1990 and surveys say that number will continue to increase by 1.2% every year. The situation is dire. Young Japanese no longer see cars as a sign of wealth or status symbols. The cost of ownership pretty much makes it impossible for anyone but the wealthy and Japan's public transport systems are far more networked and efficient than navigating a vehicle. This leads analysts to ponder if Japan may become the first country to enter the "demotorization" process.

i would think the dilemma (and expense) of parking would be enough to make any urban resident give up car ownership.
