Steampunk Tunnel Connects London To New York

Telectro1-Custom

Hardly anyone knows that a secret tunnel runs deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. In May 2008, more than a century after it was begun, the tunnel will finally be completed. Immediately afterwards, an extraordinary optical device called a Telectroscope will be installed at both ends which will miraculously allow people to see right through the Earth from London to New York and vice versa.

Of course artist Paul St. George doesn't mention you can't physically enter these Telectroscopes because they're only connected via fiber optic cables letting one side view the other side by way of live video. Cheeky!

Both ends will be open to the public 24/7 this May so get your cosplay gear ready and I'll meet you there with my optomatrized monocle and sprocket walking stick.

Umm... its called a webcam. *LOL*

I dont get it... I can get the same thing but going onto a cam site and clicking a link to view a camera.

Who paid for this? God I hope it wasnt me.

Technically it's not much more than a glorified webcam but the presentation and approach are totally unique. I think it's a great, fun, idea.

Oh - and I went to see the one in London yesterday, I didn't pay to peer down the end, the wait was over an hour long, but I did get to see over the shoulders of the people who had paid
