Yea but you still need the electronics to process nad run the image through it all. decode the channel information... which i imagine is in the bulk of the container holding the display upright.

I disagree with you darrel. it really doesn't take that much space to house the electronics to run video (look at an Iphone). Also, no your laptop is not that thin, this is like paper thin (.3 mm),
If you take off all the housing on the lcd its thinner yes. ya the iphone is thin considering what it can do yes.. BUT it doesnt house a tv tuner, an HD tuner and the sufficient jacks and outlets for me to connect various electronics to. that alone is going to add some bulk to the device.. there is no getting around that.
seriously.. what real use is it to me to have such a thin tv? other than to show off to my poor friends?
