About
I (Long Tran) get a lot of emails asking what our blog focus is. We've been classified as gadgets, fashion and most commonly a design blog. Truth is, we're everything. Back in 2004 the blogsphere was already full of excellent blogs but very few aggregated information that satisfied my diverse tastes. Since I was already spending hours everyday scouring magazines, bookstores and the net for stuff. I thought it would be a good idea to just write about them and that's how this blog was born. Along the way I've been fortunate to meet many people who shared similar interests and two of them are now writers here. None of us make money off this. We don't advertise on the site and although that may seem foolish - we really do this simply because we love to. That's the geek and nerd part of us - to acquire information and share it.
Team Electro^Plankton
Long Tran aka Electro
I'm an interactive art director by day, blogger by night. My interests center around the cool and unique, so that applies to everything from gadgets to fashion to science. I live in Los Angeles by way of New York City by way of San Francisco by way of Dallas by way of Hong Kong. I'm quite the gadgeteer and so I contribute to a few other blogs as well. You can catch me at Yanko Design where I'm the Editor and if you like electronics and video games, look for me at Nextlust and Binary Joy.
Daniel Sigvardsson aka Plankton
I've known Long for quite some time now and somehow convinced him to let me write here. I'm all gadget obsessed too but I like to think I round out the geekness around here. You see, I love to golf, surf and snowboard. I'm also a huge fan of house music even tho Long refers to it as "euro-trash". Yes I am European (Swedish to be exact) but I like to think that's a good thing. I hope you enjoy it because as these nerds write about gadgets and fashion, I'll balance it out with some activites to remind all of you - it's fun being outside too!
Mac Harris aka Selectroclash
My name is Mac Harris. I’m a wild n’ crazy 24 year old club DJ, computer whiz, and avid futurist living in Manhattan’s East Village. I routinely obsess over gadgets, vinyl releases, and the social impacts of our ever accelerating technological dystopian youth culture. Check out my site and you’ll find my latest DJ mixes, insider tech news & commentary, and the unique literary perspective of an educated but disillusioned young American mind.
Jørgen 'John' Arnor G. Lom aka Twisted
Powered by a mix of caffeine and RSS-feeds, I have my habitat north of the arctic circle; thriving on design, gadgets and the souls of children. My hunter-gatherer-instincts are kept fit, by sneaking around the net for shiny, new objects to stuff into my nest. (Though UPS does most of the gathering). And now, I'm taking my revenge on the world, who said that my niche-market rants and obsession with gadgets would lead to nothing, by finally being allowed to enter Long's army, fighting for good! (We are fighting for good, aren't we?)
FAQ
What's the meaning behind the blog name? It's from an awesome game by the same name, except it's not really a game at all. It's more like an interactive musical activity. The name also defines our personalities. Just ask yourself what those individuals words mean to you.Why the names Electro and Plankton
Aside from the game reference, the two words best represent our personalities. Electro is a technophile, heavy into gadgets, science, and tech. Plankton on the other hand really loves water, thus his moniker. Technically there are more than two people who write here, Electro and Plankton are the main editors. So how many are you?
There are four of us.How did Electro and Plankton meet?
We used to be designers at fashion house BCBG Max Azria circa 2003. Jaded by women that walk in 4" heels everyday, we somehow gravitated towards each other. This, we're sure will lead to the next inevitable question. Are Electro and Plankton a couple?
A couple of hyper gadget obsessed fashionistas/nerds - yes we are. A couple of guys in a romantic relationship - hell no.But your blog is listed on so many gay sites. . .
Well, Electro is gay but Plankton isn't. In fact Plankton is a married man (to a woman that is). He is Swedish which means he has that weird "I'm European so I'm a little gay" type thing going on. It doesn't matter where we're listed. It's great we have a gay following. Just look at Kylie Minogue and Madonna. Gay people mean longevity baby! What's your vision of the future?
A place where tangible disc formats don't exist. A place where DRM is listed in history books as one of the worst inventions of the 21st century. A place where fuel cells and cellulose bio-diesel rein supreme. A place where motivation for growth, success and survival are not monetary based. A place where religion has become a means to love as opposed to judge. How come no women on this blog?
The same reason why there are no squirrels here - none have applied. Can you guys dance?
Electro dances as well as any other queen could. Plankton . . . umm no. And Selectroclash is a DJ so com'on; he can dance while he's multitasking with two spinning discs.I've sent you blog ideas and tips and you never use them, why?
We selectively choose what to write about on here. Unlike other blogs, we don't write about everything underneath the moon. It has to bring something new to the table or remind us of how we got there. Are you guys ever going to start podcasting?
We've thought about it and honestly haven't decided just yet.
