Portishead's New Album

Portishead

The highly anticipated new album by Portishead is finally due to be released. The exact date will be announced on their myspace page shortly.

Portishead's album Dummy is a timeless record that reserved a spot for Portishead in my heart forever. In 1997 they followed up with their next release called Portishead and a special live album came after that, but they've been quiet ever since.

Despite not having released anything as a band for about 9 years now, forefront singer Beth Gibbon's claims they've never been split up or killed the band. Guitarist, Barrow says that the members have just had their heads down for a while but still been writing songs together.

Interestingly enough, I'm eager to hear what 9 years of sorrow will sound like from a band that even in their somewhat cheerful moments can shatter me into a complete state of melancholy.

I recently joked to a friend that Portishead made me want to kill myself in a very phat way. Can't go out like a punk, you know.

I simply can't wait - Portishead is the only music that plays my in my heart. I hope the album has many, many songs.

Don't worry, guys, knowing Geoff and Adrian, and the way these two mesh as sound architects, album #3 should be as good as the first two. Less can be more sometimes...Prince put out 9 albums during the 1980's while Michael Jackson only put out 2, and yet, his impact was bigger than Prince's...Plus I'm also waiting for Weather Underground next year by Massive...Dummy is my favorite album of the two, but my favorite song--"Half Day Closing"--is on the 2nd. "Half Day" reminds me of a far away planet like Pluto, and whenever I listen to "Over" I always picture Mulder and Scully in the X-Files movie when they were in the Arctic..."Over" has a tectonic-plates sound to it...and as for "Glory Box"? Damn. That bass. Sticky, alive; blues solo by Adrian; Beth needing a reason...Ok, lemme close by saying that whenever a group has a Taurus (Adrian)--of course it's gonna sound good, come on. Yo--does anybody know what's up with Mushroom from Massive Attack?

Just found out from a friend in Germany that Portishead will release a new album sometime next year. Finally they are back in the studio:-))
I won´t go too far into detail, but the only compliment that I can give Portishead is this "Every generation has a group, band, or individual who sneaks up on you and stops your heart" They are such a group.
This is comming from a Texan:-))
I pray that they are back now to stay on a consistant course, because they have a unique durability which everyone from every genre can agree on. (Sounds alot like Lead Zeppelin)
